JOURNAL CLUB

ABOUT JOURNAL CLUB(JC)

Journal Club (JC) is a valuable experience for RESEARCH SCHOLARS at all levels of career; it gives us opportunities to learn about papers that we may not have opted to read, and to broaden the scope of our own research. It might not be an easy thing to do. The faculty in charge of JC conducts meeting to discuss how we could “upgrade” our JC, and came up with a new guidelines.

ETIQUETTE FOR PRESENTER
  • Announce your paper by e-mail at least one week in advance, so that people have sufficient time to read it.
  • In the e-mail, describe  (1-2 sentences) the reason precises why you chose the paper.
  • Assume that other participants have read the paper in advance, and introduce the background and important points of the paper in 10 minutes or less. Do not try to cover all data, but rather focus on essential points.

FOR OTHER PARTICIPANTS

  • Read the paper before coming to the JC.
  • Do not worry about your ignorance on the topic. Ignorance is a key to creative ideas. Ask questions.
  • Contribute to discussions.
